Mission Statement
Founded on the strong belief that education is a lifelong process, the Bardwell Scholarship Program assists students who would otherwise be unable to achieve a college education. Bardwell Scholars are working adults who need mentoring as well as financial assistance for success. They are dedicated, determined students, setting and achieving personal and academic goals.
History
Roger Bardwell was a thinker, a man of strong and innovative ideas. He had a passion to be involved and thought change, both personally and professionally, was vital to progressive thought.
Early in his life, Roger developed a belief system based on democratic ideals and centered on the strength of the individual. This was demonstrated in all he did; whether he was operating as the superintendent of a large school district or sailing through gale force winds on Lake Michigan, Roger's commitment to task and determination was easily apparent.
Roger's life work was education. He had done it all, from school custodian to teacher to superintendent, and he truly excelled at administrative work. He believed in strong organizations where the leader led by example, where the leader could step away and have the organization still run smoothly. This is the type of organization he worked to create. This is the legacy of leadership he leaves behind.
